GENEVA- Dorothy E. Marino, age 73 of Geneva, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 6, 2016.

There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 17) at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 149 Genesee Street, Geneva. The Very Rev. James H. Adams will officiate. Entombment will follow in St. Peter’s Church Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

Dorothy was born on November 29, 1942 in Savona NY, the daughter of the late Herbert and Dorothy Fluent Johnston. She received her RN from the Arnot Ogden School of Nursing in 1963 and attended Elmira College. She started her nursing career in Elmira NY and then Geneva General Hospital. After taking a short time off to care for her children, Dorothy began working as a school nurse for the Geneva City School District, first with Geneva Head Start and then retiring from North Street School after 28 years of service to many of Geneva's children and families.

Dorothy was an active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church where she was involved with Neighbors Night, Prayer Chain and the Rankine Guild. Dorothy was also actively involved with the Geneva Historical Society where she served as Treasurer of the Women's Council, International Hupmobile Assoc., Wayne Drumlins Antique Automobile Club, Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes, National School Nurses Assoc., and was a volunteer at Rose Hill Mansion. Dorothy spent many hours in her gardens which were enjoyed by many friends and family.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Joseph; her 3 daughters, Amy (Randy) Shoemaker of Oaks Corners, Jo (James) Reale of Lyons and Susan (Brian) Mook of Geneva; grandchildren, Sierra Shoemaker, Anna, Adeline and James Reale, Jocelyn, Joseph and Abigail Arruda; brother, Walter (Lucinda) Johnston; step-sisters, Reva Lowe and Darla Corby; step-brother, Bob Thompson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Along with her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her son-in-law, William Arruda; step-mother, Kathryn Johnston; step-sister, Sharon Hankinson.
