Obituary for Louis John "Jack" Taylor

Louis John “Jack” Taylor
August 10, 1935-March 18, 2017

CABO SAN LUCAS- Lou passed away peacefully at his favorite getaway of Cabo San Lucas while sitting on his deck enjoying the view of the Sea of Cortez and the famous Cabo Land’s End.

Lou, known as “Jack” to his friends and family of his childhood hometown of Geneva, New York was a true character and lover of life. He was the son of the late Louis and Mary Taylor of Geneva. He was a 1954 graduate of De Sales High School. A professional water skier in his early 20’s with Cypress Garden’s and Tommy Bartlett water ski shows, Lou later graduated SUNY Albany, and met the love of his life, Lynne, while working at Lake George, NY. They were married in 1963 and welcomed their son Shawn into the world in 1966. His career took him westward to Kansas City and then to Wichita, KS, where he resided after 1976. In Wichita he became a successful small business owner with Liberty Distributors, which he sold and retired in 2012. Lou and Lynne were known for their dancing abilities and they were typically found out on the town every Friday, dancing and enjoying the company of their numerous friends. Lou was also an avid golfer, playing in many member-guest golf tournaments with his son and was proud of his ability to outdrive the “flatbellies” well into his 70’s. He also enjoyed snow skiing with his son and grandsons in the mountains of North Idaho, and his son’s friends dubbed him with the nickname “Sweet Lou”. All who met him loved him for his colorful personality (and clothes!!), and his zest for life. He never let the facts get in the way of a good story, and his bar top dancing skills were legendary. He will be missed by all. A small memorial was held in Cabo San Lucas, with his ashes being spread in the Sea of Cortez, per his wishes. In lieu of flowers or tears, the family asks for glasses of Irish whiskey or tequila to be raised in his honor, and for good times with Sweet Lou to be remembered.

He is survived by his loving wife Lynne, his son Shawn (Lynn) of Hayden Lake, Idaho, triplet grandsons Max, Ian and Gus, several nieces and nephews and their families in upstate New York cities of Geneva, Seneca Falls and Syracuse.

He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Mary Lou Sullivan; brothers, Thomas and Bernie Taylor; brother-in-law, Jerry Sullivan and sister-in-law, Mona Taylor.
