Obituary for Alvin J. Ryder Jr.

CLIFTON SPRINGS – Alvin J. Ryder, Jr. age 77, of Clifton Springs passed away on Tuesday December 21, 2021 at Clifton Springs Hospital.

Family and friends may call from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Dec. 29) at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home 45 High St. Geneva. Funeral services will follow calling hours at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Alvin was born on July 29, 1944 in Rochester the son of the late Alvin Sr. and Ina Isham Ryder. He attended St. Stephen’s School and graduated from DeSales High School. Alvin served in the US Army during the Vietnam War in combat with the Airborne Rangers doing 711 jumps. He retired after many years as a Drywall Finisher with Great Lakes Drywall out of Rochester.

Alvin loved playing Blue Grass on his Guitar and Banjo and enjoyed playing the Mandolin. He enjoyed going fishing, watching western movies and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Alvin always offered help too anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years Sandy; children, Tammy (Jeffrey) Custer of Newark, Marion (Thomas) Brown of Waterloo, Alvina (Leslie) Marland of Syracuse, Russell Ryder of Waterloo, Alicia (Michael) DeCarlo of Irondequoit, Alvin III (Rachael) Ryder of Palmyra, Nichole (Donald) Randall of Morganton, NC, William (Ashley) Ryder of South Carolina, Stephen Black of Phelps, Kolby Gardner of Clifton Springs; 22 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Albert (Linda) Ryder of Gorham, Hazel Steiner of Seneca Falls, Theresa (Keith) Frey of Phelps, Beverly O’Brien of Phelps; several nieces and nephews.

Alvin was predeceased by his parents, Alvin Sr. & Ina; Step-son, Jeremy Ryder; grandson, Logan Ryder; sister's, Alice Marie Ryder and Inez McKay.
