GENEVA- Charles W. (“Charlie”) D’Amico, Sr., age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday July 19, 2021 at the Episcopal Church Home in Rochester.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday (July 24) with prayers at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis deSales Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Charlie was born on September 26, 1932 in Geneva, the son of the late Joseph and Everina D’Amico. He was a graduate of DeSales High School. Charlie served in the Army for several years as a young man, including spending time in Korea during the Korean war. He was also in the Army Reserves and National Guard for numerous years. Charlie was very proud of his military service.
He worked as an electrician for much of his life, both self-employed and as an employee for many years at the New York State Agriculture Experiment Station in Geneva. He and his brother Joe also owned and operated a used office furniture business for several years.

Charlie loved to play and bet on “games of chance”, spending time when he could at local card or craps games, or in Atlantic City, Las Vegas and in recent years, Del Lago. He loved telling jokes (many of them very corny) and he and his brothers often tried to one up each other.
Charlie was devoted to his wife and took great care of her during a long illness. He also was a loyal friend and was always there if someone needed something.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Chester D’Amico; his brothers-in-law, Nicholas and Jack Legott; many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews. He is also survived by several close friends, including his good friend and “apprentice”, Steve Venuti.

Charlie was predeceased by his wife, Joanne E. D’Amico; his son, Charles W. D’Amico, Jr.; siblings, Francis, Peter, John, and Joseph D’Amico; sister, Mary Sroka; sisters-in-law, Mary D’Amico, Madeline D’Amico, Patricia D’Amico, and Dianne Legott; and his brother-in-law, Elmer Sroka.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal Church Home Foundation, 505 Mount Hope Avenue, Rochester, NY 14620, or the Alzheimer’s Association, 435 E. Henrietta Rd., Rochester, NY 14620.

The family would like to express its appreciation to Sonia Davis at Seneca Lake Terrace and the staff at the Episcopal Church Home for the good care during Charlie’s stays there, and most especially to Charlie’s private nurse and companion, Brenda Cardinale, who made his life so much better these past few years.
