He worked for Lynch Furniture during high school followed by the American Can Company before becoming a member of the Geneva Police Department. He quickly progressed up the ranks to Detective and graduated from The National Training Center for Polygraph Science in New York City in 1977. He retired in 1992 after 24 years of service.

He was lucky to have met and married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Janice. They met at De Sales High school and after she graduated, they wed. On August 11th they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary together. You did not see one without the other.
Ed was a huge family man who enjoyed spending time with and watching his grandsons grow up. He enjoyed the great outdoors including fishing and hunting. He spent years traveling the country to dog shows and hunting pheasants with his favorite dog, Baily, the German Shorthair Pointer. He loved horseracing and might place a bet here or there and play the slots when he and Janice would ‘take a ride’. He loved to make people laugh and was quick with a joke or funny story.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; son, William McGuigan of Geneva; daughter Karen (Daniel) Thomas of Albany; grandsons Daniel McGuigan, Jeffrey McGuigan, and Nathan Thomas; his sister Sharon (Phillip) Choffin; brother’s, Louis (Mary) McGuigan and Donald McGuigan, Brother-in-law Gary (Gwen) DeBolt; Sister-in-law, Janet DeBolt, and several nephews and nieces.
