Obituary for Florentia Marie Bennett (Smead)

GENEVA- Florentia Marie Smead Bennett, age 94, of Geneva passed away on Wednesday August 29, 2018 at home.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday (Sept. 1) at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be made to, St. Stephen’s Church.

Florentia was born on May 15, 1924 in Geneva, the daughter of the late William T. Smead, Sr. and Elizabeth B. Gallagher. She graduated from DeSales High School and worked at the Seneca Army Depot, Geneva City Schools and retired after many years as the Office Manager at Lynch Furniture in Geneva.

She was a member of St. Stephen’s Church, Geneva General Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at the Ava Marie Shop. Florentia loved her family and friends and enjoyed traveling to live shows and festivals.

She is survived by son, Mark (Lieanne) Bennett of Geneva; daughter Diane (Dennis O'Donnell) Bennett of Newark; 5 grandchildren, Audrey (Matt) Abraham, Sean Bennett, Christine Morse, Michael (Patricia) Bennett and Scott (Erika) Bennett; 12 great-grandchildren; brother John (Maureen) Smead of Geneva; sisters, Elizabeth DeWitt of Geneva, Mary Kay (Michael) Bolan of Geneva; many nieces and nephews.

Florentia was predeceased by her husband, Charles Otis Bennett; son, Michael Bennett; brothers, William Smead and Thomas Smead; sister, Ann Smead Hicks; brother-in-law, Edward DeWitt.
