Obituary for Francis C. Maslyn

WATERLOO- Francis C. Maslyn, age 85, of Waterloo passed away on Saturday December 5, 2020 in Geneva General Hospital.

There will be no prior calling hours. Private funeral services will be held at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home. The Rev. Thomas P. Mull will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. A Celebration of Life open to the public will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a charity of choice.

Francis was born on April 26, 1935 in Hopewell the son of the late August and Anna (Johnson) Maslyn. He graduated from Phelps High School in 1953 where he played center lineman on the football team. He was a member of the Armed Forces and served in the US Army in 1955 and for several years was a member of the Clifton Springs Fire Department in the early 50’s.

He was the hardest working man that worked 7 days a week and never took a vacation who always seemed to make time for the kids, taking many of them on the truck runs. Was a Farmer, Milkman, Egg Man, Butcher, Truck owner/operator, Business Owner and Broker for logistics. He worked at Waterloo Container until the age of 84 retiring in 2019.

He was a cartoonist with many sketches telling a story. Entering a contest, he won the creation of Mini Ha! Ha of Al Capp’s, Lil Abner. Fran was an amazing man, who never said no, even to his kids. No one spread more love in one lifetime, he always had a story, was a leader with wise words and was famous for his one-liners.

Fran & Dori’s door was always open, many family members who lived with them, when times were tough. He would give his last dollar to anyone who needed it.

He is survived by his children, Cheryl (Jon Gustafson) Maslyn of Seneca Falls, Brenda Maslyn of Seneca Falls, Kyle (Joanne) Maslyn of Seneca Falls, Scott Maslyn of Phelps and John (Tina) Showalter of Geneva; grandchildren, MaryAnn, Karrie, Shawna, Kayla, Skye, Alex and Zach; great-grandchildren, Paige, Briana, Kelsie, Keiana, A’Monii, Twyla, Danica, Dakota; great- great-granddaughter, Aspyn; several cousins and nieces & nephews known as uncle “Bo”.

Francis was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Doreen “Dori” Maslyn; parents, August and Anna; siblings, Carl, Robert “Bob”, John, Martin “Mert” and Judy.

We will hold you in our hearts until we can hold you again in heaven. Your life was a blessing. Your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measures.
