George Edward Smith
GENEVA- George Edward Smith, 79 of Geneva passed away on Thursday July 21, 2022 at Geneva General Hospital.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday (July 26) from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home 45 High St. Geneva. Funeral services will follow at 7:00p.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Thomas P. Mull will officiate.

George was born in Geneva on November 17, 1942 the son of Anna Smith. After graduating from Geneva High School, George enlisted in the Army, serving during the Vietnam War first as a member of the 82nd Airborne and later in Intelligence. On April 24, 1965 he married, Sharon Gulvin and recently celebrated 57 years of marriage. Upon his discharge from the Army, George and Sharon settled in Geneva where they raised their sons, Daniel & David.

George was employed at Goulds Pumps ITT Industries for over 35 years before his retirement.
George was a life member of the West Lake Road Fire Association, having joined in 1965. As a member of West Lake Road, he held a number of different officer positions including Fire Chief. Most recently he was a member of the Board of Directors. George remained active always answering fire calls and participating in fund raisers.
George is also a member of the American Legion Winnek post 396 and the Town of Geneva Republican Committee. He also served as a member of the Town of Geneva Board as Councilman and served as Deputy Clerk for the town as well.

In recent years town residents could find him working at the Town of Geneva Transfer Station. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and always willing to have a family member or friend by his side.

George is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, Daniel (Kate) and David (Cathy Cardinale); granddaughters, Alaina and Alyssa; several nieces, nephews and cousins; pets, Shadow and Sarah.
