Obituary for Gordon C. Baxter

Gordon C. Baxter, 95 of Geneva passed away March 17,2022.

Gordon was born in Geneva on November 27, 1926, to Gordon and Florence Baxter. He was a 1944 graduate of Geneva High School and went into the Army on May 1, 1944. In August of 1945 he was assigned to the Philippine Islands and then back to the states in January of 46. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, and the World War ll Victory Ribbon. Gordon was Honorably Discharged in May of 1946. He also attended RIT for two years.

Gordon was employed by the City of Geneva as a Career Fireman and retired after 25 years of service.
He was married to the love of his life Mary Hennessey in 1953.

Gordon is survived by his son Gary G. (Donna), his grandchildren Gordon C. (Stacey) and Thomas, his great grandchildren, Carson and Hugh, his nieces and nephew, Pam Abraham of Fort Myers, FL, Tom Abraham (Lori) of Naples FL., Paula Kaplan (Richard) of Washington, D.C., Cathy Daily (Michael) of Sandwich, Mass and Timothy Hennessey of Canandaigua, NY.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary, their daughter Terry, his sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Paul Abraham.

He was a member of the Hydrant Hose Company number 1 where he held many offices. He was a member of the American Legion Post 396 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff in both the ED and the 2nd floor of Geneva General Hospital. Their kindness, caring and compassion were greatly appreciated.

In lieu of flowers we ask donations to be made to the Hydrant Hose Fire Co. #1 at 79 Geneva St.

There will be Celebration of Life Saturday, March 26th, @ the Knights of Columbus @ 5pm.
