Obituary for JoAnn Merola (Welch)
GENEVA- JoAnn Merola, age 81 of Geneva passed away on Friday November 11, 2022 at the Wayne County Nursing Home in Lyons.
Family and friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday (Nov.18) at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home 45 High St. Geneva. Funeral service will follow calling hours at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Thomas P. Mull will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to, Beverly Animal Shelter 50 East River St. Waterloo, NY 13165 or your local Police or Fire Department.
JoAnn was born on September 27, 1941 in Montour Falls the daughter of the late Leo and Mary (Yaw) Welch. She retired after many years from the Lochland School in Geneva.
JoAnn was very involved in environmental and animal causes. She loved gardening, dancing, music and most of all her family. JoAnn’s wishes were to hug a tree, take care of the earth, all of its creatures and dance until you can dance no more.
She is survived by her children, Pat (Amy) Welch of Geneva, Angela (Rick Raker) Merola of Geneva and Ann (Tom Bailey) Merola of Geneva; grandchildren, Alyson Welch and Sierra Merola Torres; sister, Nancy L. (Ron) Pugh of East Syracuse; brother, Scott Welch of Watkins Glen; several nieces and nephews.
JoAnn was predeceased by her husband, Robert J. Merola; grandson, Bradley Welch; brothers, Ronald and Tom Welch.
