GENEVA: John A. Capozzi Sr., 94, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on May 1, 2022. Calling hours will be Thursday May 5th from 4-7 at McGuigan-Bero Funeral Home, 45 High St, Geneva. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday May 6th at 11am at Our Lady of Peace Parish/St. Francis Church, 130 Exchange St. Geneva. Entombment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ontario County Meals on Wheels in Canandaigua or the Alzheimer’s Association of Rochester.
John was born March 1, 1928 in Geneva NY to Joseph and Maria (Manino) Capozzi. John served his country during WWII in the Army-Air Corps as an 809 D-CON operator training other soldiers. Upon returning from service, John married the love of his life Mildred Cobb and they were together for 49 years until her passing. John oversaw the daily operation at the Geneva Market Basket. He retired after 50 years from Howards Express and was a member of the Local 506 Teamsters organization.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, always having time to talk, take or teach others about his two loves including teaching and guiding his two grandchildren. He was a lifelong fan of baseball, especially the NY Yankees and passed on his love of baseball to his grandson Jonathan.
John is survived by his son John (Susan) Capozzi; grandchildren Samantha and Jonathan Capozzi; nephews Frank (Rosemarie) Capozzi, Fred (Denise) Capozzi; several great nieces and nephews; special and dear friend David Williams who was a constant companion and coffee date every morning.
He was predeceased by his wife Mildred in 1997; brothers Sam, Tony, Frank; sisters Rose, Carmella, Nora.
