Obituary for Joseph G. DeMaria
GENEVA- Joseph G. DeMaria, 69 of Geneva passed away on Thursday January 5, 2023 at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday (Jan.11) from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home 45 High St. Geneva. Members of the Nester Hose Company will meet at the funeral home in dress uniform at 10:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Joe was born on December 27, 1953 in Geneva the son of the late Joseph J. and Louise (Salerno) DeMaria. He was a graduate of Geneva High School. Joe began his career working with his father at DeMaria Nursery. He took over the family business and spent his whole life working as a landscaper until his retirement.
Joe was a life member of the Nester Hose Co. of the Geneva Fire Department, member of Sons of the American Legion Winnek Post 396, Knights of Columbus Council 272, Sons of Italy and a member of the Geneva City Tree Committee. Joe also coached for the Geneva Junior Football League, raised money for the construction of the Challenger Field at the Geneva Little League Sports Complex and volunteered at the YMCA where he had served on the Board of Directors.
Joe is survived by his wife; Kathleen Lynch DeMaria; his children; Elizabeth (David Pittenger ) DeMaria of Penn Yan, Nicholas (Amanda) DeMaria of Geneva and Michael DeMaria of Geneva; grandchildren: Fiona and Emma Marino, Mason, Jayce and Erabella Pittenger, Velia, Evelyn and Olivia DeMaria; brother: Robert (Deborah) DeMaria of Geneva; Aunts; Millie Pettrone and Anna DeMaria. Several nieces, nephews and cousins; including his special cousins Creek and Crawk.
