Obituary for Lucille V. Hoover

GENEVA- Lucille Vera Hoover (McCann), 97, of Geneva NY passed away on Friday January 8, 2021 at Geneva Living Center.

Lucille was born October 2, 1923 in Watrous, PA to the late Victor L. McCann and Ruby B. (Prouty) McCann. The family later moved to Waterloo, NY. She was a graduate of Waterloo High School. Lucille later married William P. Hoover of Stroudsburg, PA. They moved from Stroudsburg, PA to Geneva, NY. Lucille was preceded in death by husband William in 2002.

Lucille worked at and retired from Zotos International. Mrs. Hoover was affiliated with the First Methodist Church of Geneva, NY. Mrs. Hoover greatly enjoyed crocheting, quilting and playing cards with her card buddies; Dorothy Rugers and Ginny Schram. Lucille loved bargain shopping and she volunteered for many years at the Linden Shop alongside Midge Tuxill.

Preceded in death by parents, husband William P. Hoover, son Jerry McCann, sister Helen Scheltz (brother-in-law Fred), stepson Donald and spouse (Ethel), stepdaughter and spouse Marion Pappas Brady (Jim), stepson William H and grandson Michael Hoover.

Survivors include stepson James (Jay) (Virginia) of Geneva, NY; stepdaughter Bertha Maynard of Naples, NY; daughter-in-law Joann Hoover of Seneca Falls, NY; daughter Karen Wirka (Vern) of Manhattan, KS; nephews Fred L. Scheltz, Gove City, OH and Tim Scheltz of Fairport, NY; 21 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several cousins, great-nephews and nieces; “Adoptive daughter” Patti Talomie (Bob Shaw) of Geneva, NY. Longtime faithful neighbors; Ralph Trunzo family, Sandy O’Boyle, Tony Ernst family and Gary Devaney family.

A memorial service will be held later with interment at Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to your charity of choice.
