Obituary for Michael D. "Gus" Brennan

GENEVA – Michael D. “Gus” Brennan, age 71, of Geneva passed away peacefully on Thursday January 20, 2022.

There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral services and burial will be held in the spring on a date and time to be announced at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wilmot Cancer Center 601 Elmwood Ave Rochester, NY 14642 or a charity of choice.

Michael was born on July 20, 1950 in Geneva the son of the late Dr. Thomas H. and Elizabeth (Bastow) Brennan. He graduated from DeSales High School, Miami Dade Community College and served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War.

Gus was a self-employed contractor for many years and was co-owner of Wylie J’s Bar in Geneva. He retired from Hobart & William Smith Colleges Building & Grounds Department. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Church and a former member of the V.F.W. in Geneva.

Gus was a die-hard fan of the NY Mets and Penn State Football.

He is survived by his sisters, Joanne (Joseph) Scherra of Geneva, Maura (Frank) Cook of Kenosha, WI and Kathleen “Punky” (Robert) Toner of Geneva; brother, David Brennan of Geneva; sister-in-law’s, Harriet Brennan of Rome and Diane Brennan of Geneva; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gus was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Thomas and Elizabeth Brennan; brothers, Thomas J. Brennan and Joseph P. Brennan; sister, Bettina Hennigan.
