In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ontario-Yates Hospice 756 Pre-Emption Rd. Geneva, NY 14456.

Richard was born on September 21, 1936, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late William and Jean Beymer Cooper. He graduated from Bedford High School in Bedford, OH and joined the US Air Force. He never took a straight line in life. He completed his basic training at the Sampson Air Force Base in Romulus and served 4 years overseas in Germany. Upon returning home, he became a Police Officer for the Bedford Police Dept. After leaving the police department, he worked in sales for various corporations. In 1968, he began his radio career with station 1490am W.E.R.E in Cleveland hosting the "Night Editor," a nighttime talk show. In his time on the air, he covered various topics including the assassination of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy. During these news bulletins, callers were invited to discuss the current news or related issues. After working in radio, he entered into the oil & gas industry as a researcher. Richard eventually became an Abstractor Title Insurance Examiner owning and operating Cooper Abstract Company for over 30 years retiring in 2014.

Richard was a member of the Winnek Post 396 American Legion and served on the steering committee for the formation of Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery. He had a love for sailing, reading, growing garlic, and spending time with his family. His sailboat was named “Lost Chords” and he sailed it out of Sampson State Park. The job he was most proud of was being a parent, grandparent, and owner of golden retrievers.

He is survived by his wife, Frances “Frankie” McCormick Cooper; children, Christopher (Janie Carte) Cooper of Ohio, Daphne Moschiano of Geneva, Monica (Joseph) Moschiano Stevens of Waterloo, Laura (Robert) Cooper Davis of Ohio, Leslie (Eric) Cooper Edwards of Ohio; grandchildren, Zaid Abueteen, Mazin Abueteen, Joshua Kime, Abbigail Kime, Gabrielle Kime, Ethan Cooper; several nieces and nephews.

Richard was predeceased by a grandson, Logan Cooper; sister Linda Cooper Malone.
