GENEVA- Richard J. Guinan, age, 80 of Geneva passed away on Thursday December 24, 2020 surrounded by his family at Geneva General Hospital.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday (Dec.29) at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home 45 High St. Geneva. Members of the Nester Hose Company will meet at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday (Dec. 30) at 1:00 p.m. in St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery on a later date at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Peace Parish or the Center of Concern.
Dick was born on August 1, 1940 in Geneva the son of the late Charles Eugene and Anna Grace (McDonell) Guinan and graduated from Geneva High School. He started his long 27-year career with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office as a Dispatcher, then appointed a Civil Deputy in the Civil Division and retired as Sergeant of the Civil Office. During his time in charge of the Civil Division, it received its accreditation and in 1997 was named New York State Civil Deputy of the year.
He was a member of St. Stephen’s Church and a life member of the Nester Hose Company of the Geneva Fire Department. Dick was President for 6 years of the DeSales Booster Club, several years chairman of Aide of the Handicap Committee, volunteered many hours at Our Lady of Peace Parish, which included painting the convent & school and chairing the June Happening.
During retirement he enjoyed his weekend trips to the mall with Gay, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, concerts and plays and daily visits with the coffee group.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Gay Guinan; children, John (Lori) Guinan of Geneva, Kristine Oddi of Waterloo and Jeanann (Robert) Moschiano of Geneva; grandchildren, Erin, Anna and Michael Guinan, Brian and Alexandra Oddi; sister-in-law’s, Kathleen (George) Lamson of Geneva, Theresa Finnerty; several nieces and nephews.
Dick was predeceased by his parents, Charles Eugene and Anna Grace; brother, Bernard (Alice) Guinan; sister, Eileen Davis; brother-in-law’s, Richard (Dorothy) Davis, George (Lois) Quinn, Gary Finnerty.
